June

June 2012 is coming to a close.  It has been a very busy month for work- mostly work- but we did have some play.  The next few posts will cover activities that happened in June.

At the beginning of June we closed up the shop for a few days to go on an extended scooter ride with Little D and Lou (Raycito was at 5th grade camp).  We drove down to Hanksville with our scooters in tow and met up with several people for the "ride to remember" (5 of us on scooters and many others riding Trail 90s).

Day One:  Hanksville to Natural Bridges to Monticello:

friend Kenton, Lou and Little D

Lou rode the majority of the way on the back of my scooter

Kevin on his GL (looks like mine, but his is a lot faster)

near Lake Powell, Hite

I rode my GL and Dave rode his Lambretta- both scooters ran extremely well despite two flats on the Lambretta that Dave repaired on the side of the road

Natural Bridges

Day Two:  Monticello to Canyonlands to Moab

we took this amazing mountain road from Monticello to Newspaper Rock

six toed foot

Lou and Dave at Canyonlands

friend Kent and son Kenton

this gas station at the entrance to Canyonlands was an adventure-
a crazy lady works here who might yell at your kids for touching shells in her flower pots

and she charges a lot for gas

we mostly took less travelled roads up until we headed into Moab and then we had to get on the highway- pretty sketchy and frightening as semis tried to run us off the road when they passed us- we stopped at Hole N" The Rock (wonder why they didn't punctuate it Hole 'N The Rock) for a reprieve from the psychotic semis

Day Three:  We drove from Moab back to Hanksville

Kenton rode in a sidecar- napping along the way- Little D and Lou wanted to try it out

Have you been to this place?

while in Hanksville we stopped at Dave's great-grandparent's resting spot

also saw the original headstone of Dave's ancestor Ebenezer Hanks

on the way home we stopped in Goblin Valley for a quick run around

we found our little cave spot that we've visited before

After three days of riding we headed back to Provo to be back together as a family.  We picked up Raycito from his grandma's house.  Raycito really missed mom (me!) while he was away at 5th grade camp.  He didn't want to show it or cry in front of the other 5th graders so instead he'd act goofy and declare in a loud funny voice "I Miss My Mom!"  Saying it this way made it so no one took him seriously even though he was very seriously missing home.  Poor little buddy- he hugged me continuously for 3 days telling me how much he loved me and missed me.  And he cried.

Dave and I were so thankful to be safe and sound at home all together again.  It was an adventure for us all and it turned out well.
