Anniversary Day

The day we were married fourteen years ago was very much like today.  It was a warm, brilliant, golden, lovely day.  Since that day we have grown so much. We are better.  We are stronger.  We are kinder,  more patient, more wise.  We have partaken of bitter to know sweet.  We have known great evil but choose good.  Through experiencing wrong we cling to the right.  From passing through great sorrow we know joy.

There were cliffs
and straggling woods. Bridges over voids,
and that great grey blind lake,
that hung above its distant floor
like a rain-filled sky above a landscape.
And between meadows, soft and full of patience,
one path, a pale strip, appeared,
passing by like a long bleached thing.

And down this path they came.
(Rainer Maria Rilke)

What joy that we are here today, together still, with our children.  They will one day know how we fought for our marriage.  We desperately wanted them to have the love of both of their parents in the home.  We continue in this so that our children have the peace and security of a mother and father who love each other.  We continue in this so that we have the happiness of growing together in love.  Never turning around.
