Merry Christmas! 2015

HURTADO FAMILY POP QUIZ
(Yes, this will count on your grade.)
For each question, choose the answer that is NOT true.

  1. Where did the Hurtado’s vacation this year?
    1. We went to Disneyland and ate Dole whips, turkey legs, beignets, monte cristos, corn dogs and churros.  We gained weight.
    2. We went to Yellowstone National Park for a three day scooter tour with about 20 fellow scooterists.  No one was eaten by a bear despite months of built up anticipation.
    3. We visited Zion National Park and witnessed an amazing deluge not unlike the days Noah wherein the park spontaneously turned into hundreds of gushing waterfalls.
    4. We visited Arches National Park and after previous failed attempts to find a local swimming hole, we successfully discovered it...along with about 100 other co-eds, unfortunately.
  2. Which activities did Raycito(age 15) participate in this year?
    1. Raycito, who has never wanted to run a mile in his life, suddenly took up cross country and not only woke up early and ran all summer but also joined the JV team during the fall.  Miracles happen.
    2. Raycito, who has never wanted to hike in his life, suddenly developed a hunger and thirst for the beautiful mountains that surround our neighborhood.  He would take off with his machete and indulge in drinking questionable water and eating grasshoppers or unknown berries despite his mother’s and father’s lectures and wringing of hands.
    3. While sitting as a passenger on the back of a Royal Enfield B5 motorcycle with a camera in his hands, Raycito took up the skill of Scootography (photography of scooters in transit) while touring Yellowstone.  He apparently has skills.
    4. Football - oh Raycito just loves football.
  3. Which activities did Little D (age 13)  participate in this year?
    1. Little D participated in an after school robotic STEM science class where he made a sea perch ( a remote control submarine) that had to complete specific tasks underwater in a competition.  He tried his hand at soldering in the process.  He also won an egg-drop competition.
    2. Little D continues to play the Euphonium, making it into the Symphonic Band at his Jr. High.  The main incentive for playing this large instrument is that he gets huge muscles from carrying it around and Little D catches people admiring these muscles.
    3. Not only did Little D play the Euphonium, but he also played the Trombonium.
    4. Little D has become a chick magnet not only because of his muscles as mentioned above, but also because he has a handsome face and irresistible curls.  He is also very polite and excels at opening doors and giving up his seat.
  4. Which activities did Lou (age 11) participate in this year?
    1. Lou became a baker and business woman this summer with cupcake stands where she learned the basics of business from her dad,  including “cost of goods sold”, which apparently took all the fun out of it.
    2. Lou started a second business this summer selling 2 million of her stuffed animals which she no longer loved.  She turned a huge profit.
    3. It is indeed a surprise to all of us, but Lou won the Reflections contest in Visual Arts again this year.  We don’t know why that keeps happening each year considering she only spends every waking moment drawing. (note sarcasm)
    4. Lou and her best friend were chosen to perform a Taylor Swift song in their school talent show with Dave on the guitar.  Dave was extremely nervous in front of all those kids.
  5. Which activities did Kaerlig participate in this year?
    1. Kaerlig turned 40 this year and decided to dance the night away at her Disco-Roller-Birthday-Skating Party, carrying on a 23 year obsession.  There was nowhere she would have rather been and nothing she would have rather done.  Dave even enjoyed it.
    2. Kaerlig has served as the Primary President in our ward for over three years and it has been a joy beyond measure. She has been suffering from a condition called “Primary-Is-Always-On-Her-Brain”.
    3. Kaerlig continues to be a mom, wife, and manager of our family business, but in her spare time she runs, gardens, hikes, bikes, cooks, remodels, and picks up as few shifts as possible at the hospital where she has been “working” for the last 13 years.
    4. Kaerlig takes long delicious naps all the time.
  6. Which activities did Dave participate in this year?
    1. Dave was in the first Mormon film with an adult content advisory.  While initially scary, many blessings have come to him and the family because of this.
    2. Dave has been thriving in his service in the Sunday School Presidency where he has been able to teach the 12 Steps of the LDS Addiction Recovery Program and hasn’t done much bell-ringing after all.
    3. After our beloved dog Midnight (who we had for 11 full years) died a couple weeks ago (hit by a car) (tragically sad) (there was weeping and wailing at the Hurtado residence), Dave consented to get the kids a new pet despite his new rule which is as follows:  “Does it poop?...then no!”
    4. Dave has been witnessing miracles that surround us, engulf us, and overwhelm us as we approach an opportunity to realize a long time goal to purchase our own commercial building in Provo for The Scooter Lounge.  Details to come.
