Our primary does a children's parade every Pioneer Day (Lou is on the float singing Scripture Power) and then a social on the lawn of our church under the shady pine trees. There are homemade treats to eat- like bread and jam, ice cream and cookies. The activities after the parade usually are tug-of-war, jump rope, and pioneer wagon rides- sometimes horse rides. It is one my favorite ward activities.
After the parade, we had a giant slip-n-slide on the hill across the street. It was pretty intense because some of the kids would pick up so much speed and run into kids at the bottom that hadn't moved out of the way- the dads at the top were having 5 or 6 kids go at a time at first. Imagine bowling- human style. All the mothers were cringing at the base. Miraculously there were no permanent injuries.
